  • The Unicoi County Highway Department is sponsoring a canned food drive for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Road Superintendent Terry Haynes said someone will be at the department 24 hours a day to collect the donations.

  • "We just need food products only, and that way we can pack it on pallets down here," Haynes said. "This is going to go into the churches down there that are cooking for the workers and for some of the people who are in that community.

  • "But we want to take this food right into the camps. We want to deliver it right into them personally so they will be able to use it immediately."

  • Haynes reminds people to remember the workers who are dealing with a tremendous clean-up effort.
