  • Three CVS pharmacies in our area are drop off points for goods for hurricane relief: CVS, 2111 n. Roan St., Johnson City CVS, Erwin CVS, 128 West Stone Dr., Kingsport The stores are collecting non-perishable food items, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, diapers, baby food & water.

  • Health kits for Katrina disaster relief will be collected at Gray United Methodist Church until Sunday, Sept. 11. If you would like to donate a kit, you may drop it off at the church office at 2108 Oak Street, Gray, TN 37615. Here's what's needed for each Kit: Health Kits1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27", No kitchen towels)1 washcloth1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)1 large tube of toothpaste (expiration date must be 6 months or longer in advance of the date of shipment to UMCOR Sager Brown)6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.   • Holston Valley Medical Center physician Dr. Karthik Ramakrishnan is looking for an available RV to borrow or rent for up to two weeks to outfit as a mobile health care facility and take to Baton Rouge, La. There a group of Kingsport health care professionals will operate an emergency center at Baton Rouge General Medical Center using the hospital as a base of operations for the mobile unit.   • The Northeast Tennessee area Kingsport Civil Air Patrol has compiled a database of available housing for hurricane evacuees. For liability reasons, only housing units (apartments, houses, trailers, etc.) that are separate living facilities will be added to this listing. To add your offer to the list call 477-1477. No matching will take place. The individuals coming into the area may make a selection as they wish.


  • First Assembly of God in Kingsport will be accepting donations to fill a trailer headed for the Gulf Coast. Donations may be dropped off Sept. 12-16 from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m., 2213 Brandon Lane, Kingsport (located behind Phil Bachman Honda on East Stone Drive).   • Zion Baptist Church and numerous area churches are sponsoring a Yard Sale/ Car Wash/ Bake Sale/ Spaghetti Dinner for the victims of Hurricane Katrina on Saturday, September 17, beginning at 8am until ??. Everyone's help is greatly appreciated and needed. All proceeds will go directly toward the relief effort in the Gulf Coast. This event is sponsored by the Tennessee Baptist Association.   • Local homeschooling families are collecting SHOE BOXES for boys and girls who have suffered losses in the hurricane. Clear boxes the size of shoe boxes or shoe boxes can be dropped off the week of September 5th at Fellowship Chapel in Bristol, TN between the hours of 8-5. Place practical and gift items in the boxes and mark general age and boy or girl. For questions call Laura Davidson at 383-6812.

  • The Telford Grace Brethren Youth will be sponsoring a benefit car wash for hurricane victims from 10am-2pm Saturday September 10th at the church on HWY 11-E in Telford. Donations will be accepted.

  • Arcadia United Methodist Church on Bloomingdale Road in Kingsport will be taking up donations for victims of Hurricane Katrina. They are accepting clothing, shoes, baby items, personal hygiene items and non perishables for the next three Saturday's (September 3, 10 & 17). The church is located on Bloomingdale Road in the Arcadia Community.

  • Fellowship Baptist Church, 3957 Hwy. 390, Bluff City, is a collection site for the Tennessee Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Program. They are collecting items daily until further notice. For more details, call 423-391-0573. Fellowship is also hosting a benefit concert with Gospel Grass on Sunday evening, September 11th at 7:00 p.m. A love offering will be taken and those proceeds will be sent to the TBC Disaster Relief Fund. Donations of canned foods, baby formula & food, and all other necessities will be accepted as well.

  • Mountain View Baptist Church has been set up as a drop-off location for the Tennessee Baptist Convention Disaster Relief for Hurricane Katrina. One truck has already left to deliver items already collected. We are now loading a second truck and will contine to receive the following items through September 14th, (Monday - Friday) during the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Items being collected are: Peanut Butter, Rice (bags), Beans (bags) Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables (in easy open cans if possible) Powdered milk, Cookies, hard candy, sweetened cereals (Please NO Chocolate or candies that will melt) Crackers and Can-openers.
