| All 10 Kingsport City Schools are banding together to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina for the Red Cross. The project titled "KCS - Kids Caring and Serving" hopes to raise money in every Kingsport school for the Red Cross through fund-raisers at each facility. Once donations have been collected, the school system will give one united check to the local Red Cross agency. Individual schools are holding unique fund-raisers at each location, with projects as simple as collecting change in a bucket at the front entrance of the school to more elaborate fair. At Dobyns-Bennett High School, the Student Council and Natural Helpers organization will be collecting money from students for the Red Cross relief efforts. Sevier Middle School students will use the school's "Stars in the Making" theme as a backdrop. Students plan to design a large heart and hang it on the atrium wall. Each time a student makes a donation, he or she will place a star on the heart, and when an entire class makes a donation a bigger star will be placed on the heart. At Washington Elementary students are sharing that "Washington Rocks with Caring" by creating a heart made of large rocks. Each rock represents $100 in collected funds. They are hoping that their heart will grow bigger each day. Donations at all schools will be collected through Friday. | |
